WHICH COUPLINGS ARE SUITABLE FOR YOUR APPLICATION?
Drive couplings as they are better known (from the English verb couple) are a category of components used to connect and transmit motion between rotating shafts (and more).
There are many applications that need to transmit motion between axes, hence there are many different types of couplings.
KTR-Systems, a pioneer in the design and manufacture of couplings since the 1950s, has a big variety of options for almost every application. Some of the main categories of couplings are the following:
Elastic couplings
The most important and widely used category of couplings are the elastic couplings, known as ROTEX. ROTEX includes a specially designed rubber intermediate spider between two hubs and is the first type of KTR-Systems coupling to be standardized according to DIN. ROTEX type rubber couplings have several advantages, the main ones of which are the zero maintenance required, their small size in relation to the transmitted torque and their ability to absorb vibrations as well as to smooth out axial displacements. These features as well as the variety of different connection options to the machines make them ideal for most applications in any industry.

TOOTHED couplings
KTR-Systems is the first company to patent the use of toothed couplings in combination with a plastic sleeve. Due to their design, BoWex toothed couplings are ideal for transmitting motion to non-aligned axes and require zero maintenance.
For higher torques up to 2,750,000Nm, GEAREX type couplings provide many options for even the most demanding applications, with a very high safety factor thanks to the AGMA design and the lubrication of the teeth.
Zero backlash couplings
The constantly increasing need for maximum accuracy has led to the design of zero backlash couplings, ideal for absolute accuracy. These couplings must be completely rigid in torsion and at the same time be able to operate without perfect alignment between the axes. KTR-Systems has various options such as ROTEX-GS, TOOLFLEX, RADEX-NC which can transmit torque up to 5.850Nm at temperatures up to 200∘C.
Couplings for CONNECTION between a shaft and a FLANGE
Although shaft-to-shaft connection is the most common, it is often necessary to transmit motion from flange to shaft, especially when using internal combustion engines. Thus, KTR-Systems has created a category of such shaft couplings ideal for use mainly in vehicles of the wider construction sector. There are two main categories, the BoWex FlePa rigid couplings and the BoWex Elastic and Monolastic type couplings which are mainly used to connect the vehicle engine with hydraulic pumps and air compressors that are necessary for the individual functions of the vehicle.
